Sony is playing the waiting game now. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter predicts that Sony won't release the PlayStation 5 until 2020. The PlayStation 5 website has used patterns, historical trends, leaks and other possible sources to puzzle out a release date for the PS5.

Sony has landed on November 15, 2020, as the release date for the PlayStation 5. It is going to be three full years before the official release.

PlayStation Universe quotes Michael Pachter's stance on the PS5 release. Sony is going to wait and see what happens with the Microsoft's Scorpio project. As Stated in The Independent, the release of PlayStation 5 will have to tie in with the 4K resolution, which fans won't be seeing as the norm for a few years.

If the Microsoft's Scorpio puts pressure on Sony and if it is really that much better, then maybe Sony will accelerate the PlayStation 5 Project. It is interestingly enough to looking at the PlayStation 5 chart, there is a bit of a pattern regarding the releases of the different PlayStation consoles.

As Mentioned in the PlayStation Universe, Michael Pachter added that 4K broadcast in PlayStation 5 will cause the people to switch their TV sets over. So, that is a good time to launch a new console. There was a gap of 5, 6 and 7 years between PS1, PS2 and PS3 respectively, and now another seven to eight years would follow the pattern. Regardless, this is purely guesswork.

Sony has launched the PlayStation 4 Slim, the PlayStation 4 Pro and the PlayStation VR in 2016, which was a pretty busy year for Sony. It would make sense for Sony to take a breath and let other companies take center stage for a while.

Nevertheless, whether Sony is really testing the waters via Microsoft's Scorpio Project or if Sony is taking a time to recoup, the PlayStation 5 remains highly anticipated console on gamers' wish list.
