Greg Hardy Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones, New Teammates Support Hardy's Signing with Cowboys [VIDEO]

The Dallas Cowboys received widespread displeasure and criticism on Thursday for their decision to sign defensive end Greg Hardy to a one-year deal in free agency.

Twitter Explodes Over Greg Hardy Signing

Hardy, you might recall, was arrested and suspended in 2014 for committing a gruesome act of domestic assault against his then-girlfriend. Hardy allegedly choked her and threw her onto a bed of guns, amongst other transgressions. Charges were ultimately dropped against Hardy when the woman refused to testify (leading some to believe he paid her off).

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones defended the signing in a recent statement.

"We have spent a great deal of time over the last two days in meeting with Greg directly and gaining a solid understanding of what he is all about as a person and as a football player," the statement reads, via TMZ Sports.

"Obviously a great deal of our study was dedicated to the issue of domestic violence, and the recent events that associated Greg with that issue.

"Our organization understands the very serious nature of domestic violence in our society and in our league. We know that Greg has a firm understanding of those issues as well."

Hardy's new teammate Orlando Scandrick also showed support towards Hardy, telling TMZ "I think he's a good player."
