Joe Flacco Contract: Agent Defends Comments Calling Ravens 'Dumb' For Not Re-Signing QB Sooner

Agent Joe Linta, who represents Joe Flacco, defended his comments that the Baltimore Ravens were "dumb" not to sign the quarterback before last season began. Linta explained to 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore on Tuesday that he was simply defending his client against the perception that he was "greedy."

In regards to this perception, Linta says he's been "hearing that for about three months now" that Flacco precipitated the Ravens' purge of veterans from their Super Bowl-winning roster with his six-year, $120.6 million extension, and USA Today Sports "prompted me for my opinion and I gave it to them."

He told USA Today that he had "never in my life seen a dumber move" when the Ravens failed to budge in contract talks with Flacco last August.

On Tuesday, Linta said he had become "Sick" of the backlash against his client "because Joe is a consummate pro, he's a phenomenal player, a great father, a great husband and a great son."

"And to be honest with you in sort of a parental mode I'd kind of gotten sick of the intimations that he was greedy and that type of thing. And I said, 'Look, I have no sympathy for the Ravens. They chose this. They walked away from the deal in August,'" he said.

Linta claims to be a fan of the Ravens because he has five clients currently on the team's roster and said that if it takes an apology to continue doing business with the team, he had no problem doing so.

"If I need to issue a public apology, if I offended them by using the word 'dumb,' then so be it. That's fine. Hey, I'm sorry. But I'm allowed to have my opinion. Like I said, they've called me a lot worse than that," he said.
