Desperate to return to prominence—and replace Mario Balotelli—AC Milan have agreed on a deal with Chelsea to obtain Fernando Torres for a transfer fee of £10 million. Per the Sun (via Goal Transfer Talk), Chelsea will only bank £4 million after giving the 30-year-old a £6 million payoff to make the move.
What Milan haven't done, however, is come to an agreement with Torres himself. Wages remain a stumbling block according to the Daily Telegraph (via Goal Transfer Talk). The Serie A side is reportedly refusing to match his salary, currently at £150,000 a week.
With Torres failing to mark double-digit goals since 2010, it's no mystery as to why.
The Spaniard isn't the only striker targeted by Milan. Per the Mirror, Arsenal's Joel Campbell remains a need for the Italian giants. Though, it should be noted that Milan are only interested in a season-long loan and are offering to pay the 22-year-old's wages in full. Convincing Arsene Wenger to agree to such a deal is an additional hurdle for the club to overcome.
The Arsenal boss was full of praise for Campbell following a friendly against AS Monaco, admitting his need for additional playing time. His admittance came with one caveat: It needs to be in an Arsenal shirt.
"Campbell has done very well," Wenger told the club's official website (via Squawka). "I like the way he plays. He is good on the ball, creative and collectively as well he has a good balance between individual skill and collective attitude."
"That's not easy to find," he added. "And there is no reason to let him go."
If they aspire to compete in 2014, AC Milan have four days left to overcome these stumbling blocks and bolster their roster.
