UFC 211 News: Frankie Edgar Vs. Yair Rodriguez Added To Stacked Fight Card, Could Be Best Card of 2017

UFC 211 just got more stacked with exciting fights as an explosive matchup between former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and rising featherweight star Yair Rodriguez has been added to the fight card. The pay-per-view event scheduled for Dallas is currently headlined by the heavyweight title clash between champion Stipe Miocic and Junior Dos Santos.

As reported by MMA Junkie, the UFC announced Thursday what promises to be a high octane fight between a seasoned former champion and a rising MMA star. Frankie Edgar, while having gone through a rough stretch since losing his lightweight title to Benson Henderson, has been impressive winning six of his last seven fights. Yair Rodriguez, for his part, has won all six of his UFC fights (10-1 overall), capped by a dominating victory against UFC legend B.J. Penn.

As noted by MMA Mania, UFC 211 is set for May 13 at the American Airlines Arena. Apart from the Frankie Edgar – Yair Rodriguez and the Stipe Miocic – Junior Dos Santos fights, UFC 211 will also feature the welterweight bout between Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal; the heavyweight clash between Ben Rothwell and Fabricio Werdum; lightweight matchup Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier; and the flyweight matchup between Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis.

Since 2013, Frankie Edgar’s only two losses have come against current featherweight champion Jose Aldo, beating the likes of Cub Swanson, B.J. Penn, Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes and Jeremy Stephens along the way. Meanwhile, the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America,” Yair Rodriguez has beaten Charles Rosa, Dan Hooker, Andre Fili and Alex Caceres—displaying unbelievable striking creativity in each of his fights. As noted by MMA Junkie, each of his last three wins have won him fight bonuses. A win over Edgar would propel Rodriguez as a legit star in MMA. UFC 211 airs on pay-per-view, following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
