On Wednesday, Kevin Durant spoke publicly for the first time since suffering a grade 2 MCL sprain and bone bruise on his left knee. And while both he and the Golden State Warriors refused to put a timeline on the All-Star forward’s return, Durant looked to be in good spirits, which could suggest he could come back sooner than expected.

“I feel better,” Kevin Durant said during his 10-minute news conference. “It’s only been a week, so I’m just trying to take my time – take it one day at a time and just get better.” The Golden State Warriors’ leading scorer that while he’s feeling good about the rehab, he’s still not thinking about his return to the floor. As noted by ESPN, prior to Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics, he was walking without the help of crutches, but did sport a noticeable limp.

According to the ESPN report, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that he hopes Kevin Durant would be back to play in a couple of regular season games before the playoffs kick off. Durant said he was able to straighten his leg out – a major goal for his rehab this week. He also said that part of his routine while injured is lifting weights and shooting from a chair. As noted by Yahoo Sports, Durant is set to be reevaluated in three weeks.

Kevin Durant suffered the injury during the early part of a Feb. 28 game against the Washington Wizards when teammate Zaza Pachulia landed on his leg after tussling for rebound position against Marcin Gortat. Shortly after the injury, people around the Golden State Warriors’ organization braced for the worst. Before getting hurt, Kevin Durant was averaging a team-high 25.2 points, along with 8.2 rebounds, while shooting a career-best 53.7 percent from the field. Watch the news conference below.
