The Infiniti is finally going to unveil it's Q60 Black S concept, the Hybrid Coupe concept is basically designed to celebrate the carmaker's new tech partnership with the F1 team of Renault.
The concept in fact is co-developed with Renault F1 team using F1 style kinetic energy recovery system to boost engine output to 507hp. It's unique power train is also co-developed by Renault and Infiniti engineers at the former's F1 engine HQ.
The Black S concept also gets a set of super-performance body modifications, which was designed at Infiniti's Paddington studio under the supervision of European design director Matt Weaver. The concept also consists of top-spec, four-wheel drive version of Infiniti's new two door Q60 coupe, whose 3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine has already produced 406hp and the car has a 0-100kph sprint time of 5.0 seconds.
Body of the car has been completely redesigned by Matt Weaver by replacing the Q60's front and rear bumpers with more aggressive down-force generating designs. It also includes the neat side skirts, working air vents on the bonnet and front wings and a massive blued titanium tailpipes. The Black S concept car wheels are specially designed 21-inch alloys.
The separate motor generator units of Renault's F1 car gather their energy from braking and exhaust gas heat and redeploy by a lithium-ion battery to virtually power both the engine's crankshaft and turbo compressor. The engineering team of Black S concept would want to replicate that system with a large and costly exercise in road car application.
The Infiniti Black S is very keen about their involvement in F1, as said by their director of global motorsport Tommaso Volpe. The director wants Black S to be road-going embodiment for their tech partnership with Renault. They believe that they are developing into a power unit now which is a challenge because the car is already tightly packaged. Certain indications though shows that chance of success is more.
