NFL News: Oakland Raiders Showing Interest To Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson; Vikings GM Wants Him To Return [VIDEO]

The Oakland Raiders had a decent performance last season and it looks like they want to duplicate it by augmenting their roster this coming season. Recent reports are saying that they are said to be targeting to acquire the services of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who might become a free agent if not signed in the coming days.

Though they lost in the Wild Card Playoff against the Houston Texans last season, it is still a good showing from the Oakland Raiders as they were able to enter for the first time in the playoffs after fourteen years. Now, they are planning to reinforce their lineup next season by looking into a viable asset in the trade market and it looks like Adrian Peterson is a potential target for them.

According to CBSSports, the Minnesota Vikings organization announced last Tuesday the team will not pick up the 2017 option on RB Adrian Peterson's contract. Peterson is set to receive $17.75 million next season which the Vikings is hesitant to give on the injury-prone running back. The Oakland Raiders will have $48 million salary cap for 2017 which can absorb Peterson's salary.

Though there is still a possibility that Adrian Peterson could stay with the Minnesota Vikings by restructuring his contract but if the two parties fail to come to an agreement on March 9, Peterson will become an unrestricted free agent. And that could be an opportune time for the Oakland Raiders to make a move to acquire Peterson.

According to ESPN, one day after the Minnesota Vikings announced that they would not exercise RB Adrian Peterson's 2017 option, league sources are saying that the Oakland Raiders have shown interest in the 31-year old running back from Oklahoma. And they could go after him if Peterson and the Vikings management will not come to terms on Thursday next week.

Aside from the Oakland Raiders, the Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants are the other teams that have been linked to Adrian Peterson following reports of his imminent release. However, Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman stated that he still wants Peterson back next season.

For now, Spielman has ongoing talks with Adrian Peterson and his agents to work out a deal with them. But the Minnesota Vikings are sure that the Oakland Raiders are looking on the sideline just waiting for the development between the two sides.
