Blizzard has revealed a new character to join the colorful cast of heroes of its popular online competitive shooter 'Overwatch.' But it is still uncertain whether the new character will be among the playable heroes.
The 'Overwatch' character in question is 11-year-old girl Efi Oladele who is a robotics and artificial intelligence genius. The girl hails from Numbani who won a genius grant and wants to build something that can protect the world.
She then wins a trip and travels with her parents to an unspecified location. This was confirmed when players noticed a change in the flight schedule in Numbani's airport. 'Overwatch' players however did not decipher the meaning of the changes and have speculated that it might be a sign of a new short story or a different character altogether according to PVP Live.
It's been awhile since 'Overwatch' unveiled a new character. Sombra was revealed back in Nov 2016. It was rumored that Doomfist will be the new character for 'Overwatch' but has since been denied according Eurogamer. But from the looks of things, Oladele doesn't seem to fit the bill as the next playable hero.
Oladele being a 11-year-old girl getting shot and killed by other heroes does not look good for 'Overwatch's' kid friendly image. However, a theory may have connected Oladele to a new character which has yet to be revealed.
The 'Overwatch' theory begins in Sombra's animated short where a diagram of a four-legged spider robot makes an appearance along with the image of the Doomfist gauntlet. Then in Jan, a community post that accurately predicted the Year of the Rooster event for the Chinese New Year.
The post also mentioned that Doomfist will not be the new 'Overwatch' hero but rather a female omnic quadruped tank/robot called Anchora. The mention of a robot and tank coincides with Oladele's goal of creating a robot that can protect everyone.
If the theory holds true, then Olade will not be the new 'Overwatch' hero but instead will be the creator of Anchora. 'Overwatch' is in need of another tank in addition to Reinhardt which has been the primary choice for tanks.
