Development for the movie adaptation of "Uncharted" has been progressing quite nicely as new details start to emerge. Writer Joe Carnahan reveals that he is mostly finished with the script for the movie but has said that it might take a different approach compared to the game.

"Uncharted" features a lot of gunfights, action sequences which promote violence despite the game rated for teens. Carnahan's script, however, might go all in on the violence and make the movie adaption R-rated.

Carnahan recently talked about his development process in writing "Uncharted's" script on Coming soon. He says that the script was never intended to be a PG-13 which he believes is the right thing to do. He mentions that the games con foul language and violence and wants it to remain in the movie without any restrictions.

The "Uncharted" games although full of violence, never made it a focus in order to keep its teen rating. Carnahan, however, thinks that an R-rated "Uncharted" movie would show the game's true identity without any restrictions to hold it back.

It's been proven before that big budget R-rated movies can be a success with "Deadpool" earning huge sales and the upcoming "Logan" which has received stellar reviews. This means that an R-rated 'Uncharted' movie could definitely work with the right script and director.

Carnahan also takes note of the similarities between 'Uncharted' and the 'Indiana Jones' movies and admits that he is a huge fan of the Harrison Ford movies. He, however, says that "Uncharted" is different than 'Indiana Jones' in the way that the protagonist's act. According to the writer, "Uncharted's" Nathan Drake hunts artifacts for the money with a roguish attitude while 'Indiana Jones' collects treasures for knowledge and archeology's sake.

Video game movies have had a long running curse of producing abysmal films. Carnahan believes "Uncharted" could break the curse which is what everyone says when a new video game movie comes up.

The "Uncharted" movie still has a lot of work to do. They have yet to find a lead actor and director as Carnahan is busy with Bad Boys 3 according to Movie Web. Sony has yet to announce a release date for the movie but a 2018 launch date at the earliest is to be expected.
