Google, the tech giant finally launched it's Android Wear 2.0 OS on Wednesday. The new update has come after three years of its first version. This is, in turn, a boost to the stagnant smartwatch industry and for the users who were waiting for an update.
Google made the announcement big and partnered with LG to introduce two flagship smartwatches that run on Android Wear 2.0 out of the box - LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport.
According to PC Advisor, it is reported that the below-mentioned list of existing smartwatches will begin to get the Android Wear 2.0 update starting from February 15, 2017. The watch features new and improved features like the improved interface, customized watch faces, Google Assistant and Android Pay Support, on-watch Google Play Store, and much more.
Asus ZenWatch 2 & 3, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch, Casio Pro Trek Smart, Fossil Q Founder, Fossil Q Marshal, Fossil Q Wander, Huawei Watch, LG G Watch R, LG Watch Urbane & 2nd Edition LTE, Michael Kors Access Smartwatches, Moto 360 2nd Gen, Moto 360 for Women, Moto 360 Sport, New Balance RunIQ, Nixon Mission, Polar M600, and TAG Heuer Connected.
The features that will be loaded inside the smartwatch after the Android Wear 2.0 OS update are-
"Based on what we've learned from users and developers, we're evolving the platform to improve key experiences on the watch, including watch faces, messaging, and fitness," said Google.
Google Assistant: Google's newest and the best digital assistant finally makes its way to the Android smartwatches. The user is only needed to say "Ok Google' or long press the power button to activate. Searching the Web, calling an Uber, or adding a reminder are few of the tasks the Google Assistant can perform.
Google Play: The Android Wear 2.0 OS accompanies another feature known as Google Play. This means the user of the smartwatch doesn't need a companion phone app anymore for downloading apps. Google Play store integration also makes it easy to use it with an iPhone, however, the Play Store will only show apps that are compatible with it.
New UI: A redesigned user interface for Android Wear 2.0 begins with a darker color palette. Major changes are the new notification design and a new app launcher which takes note of the fact most Android Wear smartwatches use a round screen.
According to Gadgets NDTV, it is reported that Verizon also announced its own smartwatch running on Android Wear 2.0 OS. The new watch is called as Wear24, which sports a 1.39-inch (480x480 pixels) round display, a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, and other sensors; and connectivity options include Wi-Fi, LTE, and NFC. The new smartwatch is reported to have a price tag of $300 and will hit the tech market next month.
