Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento Kings' franchise player, wants to clarify his future with the team this 2024-2025 season.
As the offseason inches closer, the 28-year-old center will be more vocal about his long-term vision, but will the organization listen to him?
Kings' Core Players Are Watching Closely
According to The Athletic, several Kings players are reported to be paying close attention to what the franchise does next. The trade deadline saw De'Aaron Fox, a young star of Sacramento's revival, traded to the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team deal that also involved the Chicago Bulls.
Zach LaVine and three first-round picks were received in return by the Kings—moves that indicated a change of approach but left everybody questioning what the team was ultimately aiming for.
With this trade, Celtics' legend Kevin Garnett believed that the Kings were a legit playoff contender even after Fox's departure.

Sabonis and Others Question Sacramento's Direction
Since Fox's departure, doubts have increased about Sacramento's competitiveness. One league source, who is close to a key Kings player, expressed concern about the decision-making within the organization, saying:
"What is the vision here? It feels like it could be headed toward chaos," the source told Amick and Slater of The Athletic.
Even with a 7-5 record since the blockbuster trade and a No. 10 net rating in the league, the Kings remain ninth in the Western Conference standings at 32-29. That positioning is nowhere near championship contention, which makes Sabonis' issues with the direction of the franchise even more reasonable.
Is Sabonis' Contract Going Well With His Performance?
Sabonis, a three-time NBA All-Star, is still one of the league's most talented offensive centers. This year, he is averaging 19.5 points, an NBA-leading 14.1 rebounds per game, and 59.6/43.2/74.7 shooting splits—showing his value as a top big man.
The Kings still have Sabonis' contract intact for another three years, but with the franchise not yet becoming a legitimate title contender, it's little wonder that the star center wants guarantees regarding his future.
Will Sacramento Get Sabonis to Commit?
After the 2024-25 season, Sabonis is said to sit down with the front office to discuss his long-term future in Sacramento. If the Kings are not able to offer a compelling plan, Sabonis might demand an exit.
For sure, the Sacramento front office is currently evaluating its plans with Sabonis. The future of the franchise will be reshuffled if he intends to carry his talent to a new team. In just a few games, it will be determined if the Kings are up for the championship master plan or if they will start rebuilding around LaVine.
The clock is ticking, and everyone's eyes are on Domantas Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings.
