While Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis is regarded as one of the best big men in the NBA, one journalist might have thought too highly of the Lithuanian-American big man.
After the league released the full list of voter ballots for this season's major awards, compiled by a global panel of 99 sportswriters and broadcasters, one journalist's slate stood out.
Spanish journalist Ignacio Garcia of Marca voted for Sabonis as a member of the All-NBA First Team, NBA All-Defensive First Team, third in Defensive Player of the Year, and fourth in MVP voting.
Marca, the Spanish outlet with which Garcia is affiliated, primarily produces soccer content.
Other puzzling votes from Garcia included New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Miami Heat wing Jaime Jaquez Jr. as second and third placers for the Sixth Man of the Year, as well as Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. for the All-Defensive Second Team.
Fans react to Ignacio Garica's questionable votes for Domantas Sabonis
Many fans were displeased with Ignacio Garcia's unusual voting selections, which are significant in the league's major awards.
As a Spanish, Ignacio García works at MARCA, which practically only talks about soccer in its newspaper. So he probably didn't watch any NBA games this year and voted for Sabonis because he played in Spain and because he knows his father.

MARCA has a writer named Juan Ignacio Garcia-Ochoa but they're a soccer writer. I can't find a single NBA article or tweet. What's going on here

The guy who kept voting Sabonis for everything was Ignacio Garcia of MARCA, a radio station in Spain that mostly focuses on soccer. How the fuck did this guy get a vote?

1st team All-NBA
1st team All-Defense
3rd in the DPOY race
4th in MVP voting
And there is not trace of this dude on the internet. I have no idea who he is, but the NBA needs to hold the voters accountable. https://t.co/Od2DMC0UzD
Ignacio Garcia, a spanish football columnist for Marca is the guy who's been putting Sabonis on his All-NBA 1st team ballot and 1st team All-Defense ballot. Why does a football writer have an NBA vote lmaooo https://t.co/9BrjnCmVZp
