San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was delighted to see the first two picks on Day 1 of the 2024 NBA Draft, which was held on Wednesday, June 26.

Fellow Frenchmen Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr were selected with the first and second overall picks by the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards, respectively, leading the 20-year-old to declare his pride in his countrymen.

"C'est la France frère [French flags]," the 7-foot-4 center posted on social media platform X, which translates to "It's France, brother" in English.

This is the second consecutive year that a French player has been selected as the first overall pick after Wembanyama himself in 2023.

French players have taken over the NBA Draft

In recent editions of the NBA draft, several French players have been selected as lottery picks.

Alongside Risacher and Sarr, French small forward Tidjane Salaün was also picked in the top 10 of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, going sixth overall.

Pacôme Dadiet was also selected in the first round with the 25th overall pick by the New York Knicks.

In 2023, Wembanyama was drafted first overall by the Spurs, while his French LNB Pro A teammate from Metropolitans 92, small forward Bilal Coulibaly, was initially picked by the Indiana Pacers with the seventh overall pick and then traded to the Washington Wizards.
