Former NFL player Justin Blackmon, one time a star with the Jacksonville Jaguars, has again been in the news for all the bad reasons. Blackmon was arrested last weekend in Payne County, Oklahoma, on a charge of public intoxication, just one of the many red flags in an increasingly troubled life since retiring from football.

As per police reports, police went to the scene just after 1:30 AM on Saturday following a report of a "larger Black male" on the ground. The man in question was the 35-year-old ex-WR, who had wandered into an adjacent campus building by the time police got there.

Arrest Details: Alcohol, Confusion, and Physical Struggles

According to the Daily Mail, police said Blackmon was visibly intoxicated, had wet clothes, and was unsteady on his feet.

Witnesses told the police he stank of liquor and was befuddled, stumbling over his words and saying he was "attempting to walk home to Stillwater." Seconds later, he confessed, "You got me," when told Stillwater is a city, not an address.

The arrest report mentions the difficulties the officers encountered in detaining him. Because of his big frame and muscular wrists, two pairs of handcuffs were needed.

Blackmon also could not squeeze into the typical squad car, so authorities summoned a larger transport unit. When he was arrested, he tipped the scale at 230 pounds, a good 20 pounds above his NFL playing weight.

A Shining Career That Was Sidetracked by Legal Problems

Blackmon's descent from stardom has been one of the most dramatic in recent NFL history. A standout college player at Oklahoma State University, he won consecutive Biletnikoff Awards as the country's best wide receiver and was a consensus All-American.

In his 2010 season alone, he caught 111 passes for 1,782 yards and 20 touchdowns, then followed it up with another dominant year that solidified his top-five draft pick status.

The Jaguars drafted Blackmon fifth overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, and he showed serious promise in his rookie season, catching 64 passes for 865 yards and five touchdowns.

But off-field problems soon eclipsed his abilities. In June of 2012, he was arrested on a DUI charge, then suspended for four games in 2013 for breaking the NFL's substance abuse policy. In 2014, he was again arrested for possession of marijuana, and in 2015, he was charged once more with DUI, which was met with a suspended prison sentence and probation.

His latest mugshot appears questionable since it appears to be two different people. However, authorities said it's Blackmon in his current state.

Recent Induction Does Not Eliminate Controversies

Even with his checkered post-NFL career, Blackmon was immortalized in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023, recognizing his storied time spent with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He will also be enshrined in Oklahoma State's Ring of Honor this November.
