The Washington Wizards have acquired a lottery pick ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft.
They secured the 14th overall pick, a 2029 draft pick, and guard Malcolm Brogdon from the Portland Trail Blazers.
In return, the Blazers will receive highly promising Israeli forward Deni Avdija, who is on a favorable contract.
The Wizards will use the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Brogdon is a former Rookie of the Year back in 2017, and he also won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award during his lone season tenure with the Boston Celtics in 2022-23. However, he only played in 39 games in 2023-24 for the Blazers due to several injuries, including a season-ending tendinitis in his right elbow.
Deni Avdija is on a cheap contract
The 6-foot-9 Avdija will provide a lot of value for the Blazers at a cheap price.
The 23-year-old signed a four-year extension worth $55 million with the Wizards in October 2023, which will take effect in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
This locks him up for the foreseeable future without sacrificing much cap room, as he is set to make $15.6 million in 2024-25.
Avdija is coming off a campaign where he averaged career highs in almost every single category, including points (14.7), rebounds (7.2), assists (3.8), field goal percentage (50.6%), three-point percentage (37.4%), minutes played (30.1), and games played (75).
