The New York Knicks have secured one of their most vital pieces for the foreseeable future.

Forward OG Anunoby intends to remain with the team by signing a new five-year contract worth $212.5 million. He previously declined a 2024-25 player option with the Knicks worth $19.9 million.

The agreement will include a player option and a trade kicker, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Knicks acquired the 26-year-old in a midseason trade with the Toronto Raptors on December 30, 2023.

Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn arrived in the Big Apple in exchange for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a second-round pick.

New York now features one of the league's top defensive duos with Anunoby and their recent blockbuster trade acquisition, Mikal Bridges.

OG Anunoby turned down max offers from other teams

The British player turned down maximum contract offers from several other teams, seeing the vision with the Knicks and wanting to help build a formidable contender in New York, according to journalist Ian Begley of SNY.

The 2023 NBA All-Defensive Second Team member could have received a maximum offer of a five-year deal worth around $245 million.

Anunoby would still see a massive pay increase, with an average annual salary of $42.5 million, up from the $18.6 million he made in 2023-24, which was already a career-high for him.
