The Los Angeles Lakers have found their man to lead the team from the sidelines, hiring JJ Redick as the franchise's 29th head coach on a four-year contract, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The former NBA sharpshooter, who turns 40 on June 24, has no prior coaching experience at any level, but the Lakers are devising a major plan to help him navigate his first coaching role.

The team will surround Redick with an elite coaching staff to help shorten his learning curve in his first coaching job.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka became convinced of Redick's ability to connect with players and his high basketball IQ, leading to the decision for him to succeed Darvin Ham.

The purple-and-gold franchise aims to hire at least one former head coach to join Redick's staff.

One name that has emerged is former Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks, who currently serves as an assistant for the Portland Trail Blazers.

JJ Redick's coaching staff candidates

Other names that could be joining Redick's staff include former Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo, widely regarded as one of the smartest players in NBA history.

The Lakers are also considering coaches from the staffs of the two teams in the 2024 NBA Finals.

Former Lakers player and current Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Jared Dudley, along with Boston Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell, is another candidate.
