The Columbus Blue Jackets will be starting a search for a new head coach for the second consecutive summer.

After just one season at the helm, the team announced the dismissal of head coach Pascal Vincent.

During his tenure, the 52-year-old oversaw a disappointing record of 27-43-12, which resulted in the team finishing with 66 points, the fewest in the Eastern Conference and the fourth-fewest points in the NHL in 2023-24.

After failing to make the playoffs for the past four seasons, the team is undergoing a significant overhaul, appointing Don Waddell as their new general manager and President of Hockey Operations in May 2024.

"As I spent time with Pascal over the past few weeks, I found him to be an outstanding person and smart hockey coaches who worked very hard under trying circumstances, but I believe a change behind the bench is in our team's best interest," Waddell said about Vincent.

Blue Jackets' tumultuous hire of Pascal Vincent

The Blue Jackets endured an eventful summer last year when they selected Vincent as their head coach in September 2023.

Initially, the team hired 2008 Stanley Cup champion coach Mike Babcock to lead the team in July 2023.

However, the 61-year-old resigned in September after allegations emerged that he violated players' privacy by requesting to see pictures on their phones.

Vincent was promoted to the head coaching position after the event, having served as an associate coach for the team since 2021.
