San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey will be the cover athlete for EA Sports Madden 25, the gaming developer announced on Tuesday.

McCaffrey will be the first running back to be featured as a cover athlete on the popular title since Adrian Peterson in 2013 alongside legend Barry Sanders, who also graced the 25th-Anniversary game as the co-cover athlete.

He is the first 49er to be on the cover of the game since former running back Garrison Hearst, who appeared on the international cover of Madden 1999.

"To be on the cover of Madden NFL is a career achievement and an honor I share with all of my teammates, coaches, and 49er Faithful who have helped make it possible," said McCaffrey via an EA Sports press release. "I'm pumped to get back on the field this year to give Madden players more reasons to keep scoring touchdowns with me in Madden NFL 25."

Christian McCaffrey is coming off a superb season for San Francisco. He won the Offensive Player of the Year while posting 2,023 scrimmage yards (1,459 rushing yards) and 21 total touchdowns.

Becoming the latest cover athlete of Madden is only the cherry on top of an eventful offseason for the star running back.

McCaffrey just inked a two-year $38M extension to stay with the Niners through the 2027 season.

The game will launch on August 16th and will be available on Xbox (X, S & One models), PlayStation (5 and 4 models), and PC (EA app, Steam, and Epic Games platforms).
