The Minnesota Timberwolves had no answer for Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic in Game 5 of their Western Conference Semifinals playoff series, losing 112-97 on Tuesday, May 14, at the Ball Arena in Denver.
With the Timberwolves on the brink of elimination, star Anthony Edwards could not help but be in awe and appreciate the Serbian center's performance during the pivotal Game 5.
After the game, the two-time NBA All-Star shared his thoughts with reporters in their locker room.
"I just laugh. That's all I can do. I can't be mad. He's good man... He's the MVP. He's the best player in the NBA. He showed it the last three games. He was special tonight. I have to give him his flowers. He was that guy," the 22-year-old said in the locker room.
Jokic had an exceptional game, scoring 40 points on 15-of-22 shooting while also contributing seven rebounds, 13 assists, two steals, and one block.
What made his performance even more remarkable was that he accomplished all of this without committing a single turnover.
Anthony Edwards struggled from the field
Compounding the Wolves' problems during that game was Edwards' shooting struggles.
The former first-overall pick scored only 18 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field and 1-of-5 from three-point range while also committing four turnovers.
Despite struggling to score, Edwards added four rebounds, nine assists, and one steal for the evening.
