The Boston Celtics have encountered a concerning trend over the past few years, as they have now amassed a 15-15 record at home during the NBA Playoffs since 2021.
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green shared his candid thoughts about the issue during a guest appearance on "Inside the NBA" on TNT before Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 34-year-old suggested that teams often become complacent when playing at home, leading to unexpected losses and increased pressure to perform well on the road to regain momentum.
Green also emphasized the importance of a leadership figure within the Celtics stepping up and reminded what the Warriors did to them two years ago in the 2022 NBA Finals.
"Who's the leader that's going to step up and say, 'Hey, man, this is garbage. We've been struggling at home, it's costing us.' Steph Curry went on the road and beat them in Boston. It's costing [them] championships now," the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year added.
The Celtics have dropped two home playoff games this year
The Celtics currently hold a postseason record of 6-2 this year, with both of their losses occurring at the TD Garden.
Notably, both losses were by double digits, with the first occurring during Game 2 of the series against the Miami Heat in the first round and the second in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Cavaliers.
The Celtics will return to the TD Garden for Game 5 against the Cavaliers on Wednesday, May 15.
