Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has evolved into one of the NBA's biggest stars, something that his mother, Brandy Cole, had envisioned right from the beginning.

The five-time NBA All-Star previously appeared in an interview with host Taylor Rooks, during which he was pleasantly surprised by his mother, who shared a story highlighting one of the numerous ways she prepared her son for NBA stardom.

Cole revealed that when Tatum was between six and eight years old, she would hold a brush or remote to his face and ask him impromptu basketball questions as if she were a reporter.

Initially, Tatum didn't grasp why his mom would ask these questions, but Cole explained that she pretended to be a reporter from ESPN and TNT because she firmly believed that her son would become one of the best players in the world.

Tatum's mother had him when she was 19, and she persevered in raising him as a single mother.

Jayson Tatum's touching letter to his mother resurfaces

During Mother's Day 2024, a touching letter from Tatum to his mother, written as he was about to begin his college basketball journey at Duke in 2016, resurfaced on The Players' Tribune.

The two-time All-NBA first team member shared how his mother refused to halt her education at 19, despite having a child, continuing college, and bringing young Tatum to classes because she couldn't afford a babysitter, and Tatum's grandmother also worked.

Cole has since earned four degrees, including an MBA, and graduated from law school.
