Travis Kelce is not going anywhere as the Kansas City Chiefs decided to adjust his contract.

General manager Brett Veach said adjusting Kelce's deal is among the team's top priorities as they head into the new season as back-to-back Super Bowl winners.

The team is still fresh from winning the NFL title against the San Francisco 49ers last February, and they hope to become the first to achieve a three-peat.

Kelce, alongside Patrick Mahomes, will be critical for this attempt.

"Hard to put into words what Travis means to this organization and this city," Veach said in a Zoom call with reporters.

"Just a really special day and moment for this organization to once again recognize arguably one of the greatest tight ends to ever do it."

Kelce, 34, joined the Chiefs in 2013 as a 63rd overall pick.

Since then, he climbed to stardom, earning four First Team All-Pro and nine Pro Bowl on his way to becoming the Chiefs' all-time leader in yards receiving with 11,328 and three Super Bowl wins.

Travis Kelce contract details

Kelce's previous contracts were also long-term.

His first major deal was the $46 million, five-year contract he signed in 2016, followed by a four-year, $57.25 million extension in 2020.

The deal was renewed, and he will now earn more than $17 million per year.

The two camps completed a two-year, $34.25 million contract on Monday, with $17 million guaranteed for this season.

Another $11.25 million is guaranteed by the third day of 2025.

The deal makes him the highest-paid tight end in league history for the first time.

Before this, he was only earning $14 million per season. Darren Waller of the New York Giants previously owned the record.

"It feels good to be in K.C.," Travis said shortly after he signed the contract.

"I remember coming here 12 years ago, man. It's an honor and a pleasure. I can't wait to get after it these next two years, but no better than right now. I'm getting fired up for this year."

Kelce, who will turn 35 in October, has been a bankable player for the Chiefs, both on and off the field.

He is currently dating superstar singer Taylor Swift.

Travis Kelce retirement plans

Many believe this extension could be the last one he will sign with the Chiefs before retiring.

The veteran tight end has been very vocal about his plans once he hangs his cleats. This includes entering the showbiz industry.

He even hired agents to make him the next Dwayne Johnson.

A plan is in place, but Travis Kelce has yet to make an unequivocal statement about his retirement.

He only entertained the idea when he said in his podcast with now-retired brother Jason Kelce that he will retire only when his coach, Andy Reid, retires.

"I'm not playing for anybody else but Big Red. If he calls it quits this year I'm out of there with him, man," he said in the podcast's episode last week.
