AEW star Chris Jericho, often hailed as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, received a less-than-favorable reception in his most recent match.
The 53-year-old faced a hostile crowd during the promotion's Dynasty pay-per-view event on Sunday, April 21, held at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri.
During his match against HOOK for the FTW Championship, Jericho was the target of chants urging him to retire, such as "Please retire" and "Go home, Jericho."
HOOK displayed resilience by kicking out of two Judas Effect elbow strikes in what was described as a violent match.
Jericho retrieved a baseball bat from under the ring and struck HOOK with it, ultimately securing a pinfall victory to claim the FTW Championship.
The Canadian performer made his way backstage to celebrate his victory while AEW commentator Taz left the commentary table to check on Hook, who happens to be his 24-year-old son.
Chris Jericho has received backlash for one reason
Jericho has faced criticism in recent years, particularly in his tenure with AEW, for allegedly stalling the momentum of other talents by inserting himself in storylines.
He also received backlash for defeating younger stars instead of elevating their status within the promotion by "putting them over."
HOOK's second reign as FTW Champion concluded after 238 days following his defeat to Jericho.
