One of WWE's top performers competed in the recently concluded WrestleMania 40 despite battling a devastating illness during a high-stakes world title match.

Becky Lynch, one of the company's top female wrestlers, was scheduled to face defending champion Rhea Ripley for the Women's World Championship on the first day of the event last Saturday, April 6.

However, the 37-year-old was struggling with strep throat and a fever as high as 102°F (38.89°C) in the days leading up to the event.

Lynch earned her spot in the world title match after winning the Elimination Chamber match during the event of the same name in Perth, Australia, in late February 2024.

Some fans still rated Lynch's WrestleMania 40 performance positively despite her condition, with some not noticing that she was sick until it was brought up.

Rhea Ripley retains the title despite Becky Lynch's best efforts

Despite not being in the best physical condition, the sixth Women's Grand Slam Champion showed up at the event and competed in the opener of the entire festivities, with her match against Ripley being the first on Night 1.

However, Ripley retained the belt and extended her year-long reign after a 17-minute match. She has been the champion since beating Charlotte Flair in WrestleMania 39 Night 1 on April 1, 2023.

The 27-year-old Aussie described the evening as the best night in her life, according to a recent post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
