The Kansas City Chiefs have secured the services of an experienced quarterback to serve as a backup for star Patrick Mahomes.

With ambitions of becoming the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row, the Chiefs have taken a significant stride towards achieving that goal.

The team has signed veteran signal-caller Carson Wentz on a one-year deal, according to league insider Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

The 31-year-old was the starting quarterback for most of the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles season, during which the team won the Super Bowl.

However, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 14 of the regular season, causing him to miss the entire playoffs, while Nick Foles took over the quarterback duties and subsequently led the team to the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The specifics of Wentz's deal with the Chiefs have not been disclosed, but he earned $1.16 million with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2023 season while serving as Matthew Stafford's backup.

Chiefs will be Carson Wentz's fifth team in five years

The Chiefs will mark Wentz's fifth team in the last five seasons. He began his career with the Eagles, where he spent five seasons after being drafted second overall in 2016, remaining with them until 2020.

Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts during the 2021 season before getting shipped again to the Washington Commanders in 2022.

In 2023, he had a brief stint with the Rams, appearing in two games and completing 70.8 percent of his passes for 163 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception.
