Cameron Sutton, an NFL cornerback who most recently played for the Detroit Lions, surrendered to authorities at the Orient Road Jail in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday, March 31, following weeks of evading law enforcement.

The 29-year-old is currently facing a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, which is classified as a third-degree felony and carries a potential punishment of up to five years in prison. An arrest warrant was issued for him on March 7.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office posted footage of the player turning himself in on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Sutton spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2017 to 2022 before joining the Lions in 2023.

Throughout his tenure in the league, he has accumulated 193 solo tackles, 40 assists, 2.0 sacks, one fumble recovery, and nine interceptions.

Cameron Sutton loses $33 million deal due to controversy

Sutton was previously on a three-year contract worth $33 million, signed with the Lions in March 2023 as a free agent.

However, his contract was understandably terminated last March 21 after he failed to surrender to the police within two weeks of an arrest warrant being issued against him. The team announced the move without providing any further details.

In the 2023 season with the Lions, the Tennessee product recorded a total of 65 tackles, with 50 of them being solo tackles. Additionally, he registered one interception, six passes defended, and one forced fumble.
