Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson is about to make franchise history over the next few games if he continues to hit home runs.

The 29-year-old tied the Braves franchise record for most home runs by a player in a single season by hitting his 51st of the season during a 7-6, 10-inning win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night on the road at the Citizens Bank Park.

Olson had tied Braves great Andruw Jones, who hit the same number of home runs during the 2005 season.

With two weeks left in the season, the two-time MLB All-Star only needs one more home run over the next 17 games to beat the record, and he could extend it even further with the significant number of games remaining in the season.

For context, Hank Aaron, who previously held the MLB record for most career home runs for 33 years, did not hit more than 50 homers in his playing career. He spent 21 seasons with the Braves franchise.

Aaron's highest single-season output was 45 home runs in 1962.

Atlanta Braves make National League history

While Olson is on the verge of breaking a record, the team already broke one during the game.

The 2023 Braves are now the team with more home runs throughout the season in National League history after scoring their 281st round-tripper in the 5th inning.

They surpassed the mark set by the 2019 Los Angeles Dodgers, which was 280.
