Errol Spence Jr. unsurprisingly triggered the rematch clause against Terence Crawford, the same fighter who dealt him a ninth-round knockout back in July. However, not all are coy at the idea, some believing that the result of Crawford vs. Spence Jr. will remain the same.

Regardless, this will not likely convince "The Truth" to change his mind. With that being said, it may be in the best interest of Spence Jr. to at least try to hold off the rematch and allow his body to heal further from the beating he got from "Bud" in July, according to analyst Stephen A. Smith.

Spence needs more time for his body to heal

In the opinion of the 55-year-old, Spence Jr. took quite a beating from Crawford. Many noticed that the 33-year-old fighter from New York was slurring, yet another indication that he took a lot of punishment from Crawford.

Smith believes that it is a bad idea to face Crawford again. Aware that his opinion may not matter, the next best thing is not to rush the rematch as far as he is concerned.

"I'm not cracking jokes; I'm not laughing. I don't think it's funny. It was just bad. He does not need to get back in the ring with Terence Crawford this year. Me personally, period, but especially this year. He don't need to get back in the ring before next summer, but he had a rematch clause he exercised," Smith pointed out.

So far, no date has been set on when Crawford vs. Spence II will happen or where it will take place. Aside from triggering the rematch, the only thing known is that the fight will likely be at 154 lbs.

Regardless, Crawford's trainer, Brian McIntyre, says the fighting weight won't matter. As far as he is concerned, the outcome will remain the same when he spoke with Fight Hub TV.
