Many top players in the NFL have resorted to holding out the final year of their current contract if a new long-term or lucrative extension is not on the horizon.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, and Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor are among the notable players doing the negotiation tactic.

On the other hand, Carolina Panthers star linebacker Brian Burns is not one of them, choosing to attend training camp and other team activities in the final year of his current deal despite not having a new contract on the table.

The 25-year-old explained his reasons for continuing to suit up for the Panthers.

"No fault to anybody who is not participating. But we've got something special, and I'm a big part of it, so I can't miss any time. I've just got to be here,'' Burns said.

The latest report from NFL insider Dov Kleiman states that the Panthers and the former Florida State player are not close on an extension despite months of discussion.

Brian Burns is the only Panther in ESPN's NFL Top 100

Burns is the only member of the Carolina Panthers who was voted on ESPN's list of the top 100 players in the NFL, coming in at No. 54.

The 16th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft has solidified himself as one of the best in his position, making the Pro Bowl game for the past two seasons.
