Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard got honest about the situation they are dealing with right now regarding star running back Jonathan Taylor.
The 54-year-old team executive admitted this is a difficult time for the franchise.
"I'm not going to sit here and give you some rosy picture, like, 'Oh, everything's okay.' It sucks for the Colts. It sucks for Jonathan Taylor. And it sucks for our fans. It just does. It's where we're at and we've got to work through it," Ballard said.
He added he cares deeply and greatly respects the disgruntled running back, vowing not to quit on their relationship.
The Colts have failed to search for a trade involving Taylor after the player sent in a trade request last month following the two parties' failure to reach an agreement regarding a contract extension.
The team thinks they did not receive an offer from other teams that they deemed fair value before their self-imposed deadline last Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST.
They still have a chance to deal with the 2021 Pro Bowl selection until the NFL's October 31 trade deadline.
Chris Ballard is open to repairing the relationship
Ballard also thinks the relationship is repairable despite the current situation with Taylor.
The Colts general manager understands that some guys get emotional and take a stance, and it is important for all parties involved to work through that.
