The newest Dallas Cowboys quarterback is happy to be part of the team.
Trey Lance, who was dealt to the team last Friday, shared his reaction when he learned he would be playing for America's Team.
"I really tried to not expect anything one way or another, but I can say that when I heard 'Cowboys,' I had a big smile on my face. I was very excited to be here," the 23-year-old said.
The third overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft added that his time with San Francisco did not go as expected, but he believes everything happens for a reason.
Lance was traded to the Cowboys after he lost the backup quarterback fight in San Francisco to veteran Sam Darnold.
The former North Dakota state player was hyped as the franchise's future star quarterback when the 49ers drafted him two years ago, but inconsistent performances, injuries, and the emergence of seventh-round pick Brock Purdy as starter put Lance out of the limelight.

The 31-year-old said there have "been a lot of weird situations over there in San Francisco," adding that he is happy to see Lance get another shot at showing his talents.
