It is no secret that trading for Shohei Ohtani of Los Angeles would mean letting go of some of your club's prized assets.
Signing the Japanese superstar and the top free agent next summer is like a puzzle that is hard to solve since the pieces are not there yet.
Many teams are interested but will need help breaking this deal down to make their offers attractive.
ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Paisan might have something for the struggling New York Yankees.

The proposed trade includes draft prospects and young players that will assimilate instantly to the Angels and continue having a shot at the title.
Explaining the trade, McDaniel wrote:
"I prioritized including multiple prospects who could be on a top 100 list this winter or next rather than just one top player and skewing most of the value toward (1) position players and (2) being in Double-A now or soon. [Everson] Pereira (power-over-hit outfield tweener) and [Trey] Sweeney (hit-over-power lefty-hitting shortstop) are probably both in the back half of the top 100 right now. [Chase] Hampton and [Drew] Thorpe are arrow-up starters with above-average stuff and enough feel to start, while [Jared] Serna is a nice late-blooming power/speed performer."
Paisan thinks McDaniel's deal is still lacking
Paisan thinks McDaniel's proposal remains insufficient, given the stature of Ohtani. He is one of one.
To fix it, Paisan wants Spencer Jones and Jason Dominguez thrown in.
"The Yankees certainly can deal in bulk, and they're the team that might benefit most from Ohtani's presence," he said.
"And because -- unlike the Rays -- they're plenty capable of signing him as a free agent, this would be as much a showcase to him as it is a rental to the club."
