The Detroit Pistons are set to keep big man Isaiah Stewart on a four-year rookie contract extension valued at $64 million, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Nicknamed Beef Stew, the 6-foot-8 forward-center averaged career-highs in points and minutes last season with 11.8 points and 28.3 minutes per game, alongside 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

The Pistons selected Stewart as the 16th overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft.

Pistons general manager Troy Weaver and Stewart's agent Drew Gross completed negotiations about the extension at the ongoing NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Isaiah Stewart's contract extension is a milestone

Stewart's deal is a milestone for the Pistons owner Tom Gores, who took over the team in 2011. It is the first rookie extension of his ownership tenure, 12 years after his purchase.

It is also the first rookie extension for the whole Pistons organization since 2008 when forward Jason Maxiell signed a four-year, $20 million contract when smartphones were not prominent yet.

The 22-year-old is also the first from the 2020 NBA Draft class to be given a non-maximum extension. Four players from the 2020 class landed deals worth $1 billion combined.

All-Stars Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, and Tyrese Haliburton got contracts worth $260 million, which are all tied for the second largest contracts in NBA history, behind reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic's $270 million deal with the Denver Nuggets.

Grizzlies sharpshooter Desmond Bane landed a five-year, $207 million deal to remain in Memphis.
