Victor Wembanyama rebounded from a tough outing in his NBA Summer League debut, doing better in the San Antonio Spurs' second game of the offseason event against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday.

The 7-foot-3 phenom showed off his wide array of skills, slamming down putback dunks, hitting mid-range jumpers and threes, and protecting the rim on the other end.

Wemby ended up with a dominant 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, 2-of-4 from long distance, 12 rebounds, and three blocks in 27 minutes. The 19-year-old already had more points in the first half of this game than his Vegas debut.

However, the Blazers dealt the Spurs with a narrow 85-80 loss.

Victor Wembanyama's Tough Summer League Debut

The 2023 NBA Draft's top overall pick did not exactly have a dream start in his first NBA action in a Spurs uniform last Friday.

Wembanyama scored 9 points on a terrible 2-of-13 shooting, 1-of-6 from downtown in his debut. Although his scoring may leave much to be desired, his 8 rebounds and 5 blocks were silver linings in a rough outing.

There was an instance where he seemed to have lost confidence in his shot, hesitating to shoot the ball before settling for a three, which turned out to be an airball.

"Honestly, I didn't really know what I was doing... I'm trying to learn," the big man said after the game.
