The last two months have not been that kind for San Francisco Giants pitcher Anthony DeSclafani and manager Gabe Kapler is taking notice.

The 33-year-old veteran was poised to make a great run at the start of the season with his earned run average of 2.70 in 30 innings. However, things did not look great for him in May and June after more than doubling that ERA average to 6.65.

Kapler said his number-one pitcher is just not great at the moment.

"I don't think he's at his sharpest right now," Kapler told reporters.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with Anthony, I just think he's not bouncing back great and I don't think his body feels great, but there's nothing specifically to point to here."

DeSclafani acknowledged his struggle saying the shortened 2022 season could be a factor.

He explained that he was running out of fumes and was just waiting for the All-Star break so that he could fully recover.

Recent loss vs. the Mets

The Giants are not far from the top of the NL West Standings, just three games behind and tied at 46-37 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

However, they recorded 5-5 in their last 10 games, and the last one versus the New York Mets was a scathing loss, especially for DeSclafani, who gave up three homers for their hosts.

"They put some good swings on the ball," DeSclafani said after the match.

"I thought I kind of got out of that inning with clipping a strike to Nimmo, and I didn't get the call, so that was frustrating. They just put some good swings on."
