The La Liga champions recently acquired Manchester City's treble-winning captain, Ilkay Gundogan, and along with young stars Pedri and Gavi running the midfield for Barca, De Jong could face difficulties in regularly breaking into Xavi's 11.

Manchester United and Barcelona previously agreed on terms for the Premier League club to acquire De Jong in the summer of 2022, but the player did not give the green light.
Speaking on the situation, De Jong confirmed that he did not want to go to Manchester.
"Manchester United spoke with Barça, even though I wanted to stay... I want to be at Barça for as long as I can", the Dutch star said in an interview.
