Serena Williams Faced Difficulties During 2017 Childbirth

The couple already has a five-year-old daughter, Olympia, born in September 2017. Williams made headlines that same year when she won the Australian Open while she was eight weeks pregnant.

She later revealed that she had learned about her pregnancy just before the tournament began.

Last August, Williams wrote a first-person essay for Vogue, announcing that she would be stepping back from tennis to focus on her family. She explained that she and Ohanian had been trying to have another child for a year and had received positive news from her doctor. Williams stated that she did not want to be pregnant again while competing as an athlete, as she felt she needed to be fully committed to her sport or her family.

Williams has been open about the difficulties she faced during childbirth in 2017 and the long road to recovery that followed. Despite this, she returned to professional tennis just six months later. Although she was unable to win her 24th major title, which would have tied Margaret Court's record, she reached four major finals and won the Auckland Open in 2020.

At the 2022 US Open, Williams made a memorable run to the third round, which included a victory over second-seeded Anett Kontaveit. After losing to Ajla Tomljanovic, she gave an emotional speech to the crowd, saying that her career had been "the most incredible ride and journey I've ever been on."

Williams is a regular attendee of the Met Gala and has been a longtime friend of Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and a co-chair of the event. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
