Tiger Woods Pulls Out of the Masters

He announced on Twitter that he underwent a subtalar fusion surgery to treat post-traumatic arthritis resulting from the said injury, where he fractured his talus bone.

Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent at Excel Sports, said that he is resting and beginning his recovery at his home near Jupiter, Florida, after having surgery in New York. However, there is no specific timetable for his return to playing golf.

Woods suffered severe injuries to his right leg and ankle in February 2021 after his SUV crashed off a suburban coastal Los Angeles road, with multiple bones shattered.

His ankle has been causing most of the recent problems, including a noticeable limp during his last four of five major tournaments, including the Masters two weeks ago.

Recovery from subtalar fusion, a procedure to fuse the bones in his ankle, is estimated to take around eight to 12 weeks, making it unlikely that Woods will be able to participate in the upcoming PGA Championship due to his doubts about playing in cold temperatures and the event being held in Oak Hill, Rochester.

Woods latest appearance was at the Masters, where he had to pull out during the third round because of plantar fasciitis. This condition causes tissue inflammation across the foot's bottom, linking the heel bone to the toes. Videos uploaded to social media showed Woods walking with a severe limp when play was halted due to inclement weather at Augusta National. Woods had 28 holes left to play in the tournament when the third round was suspended for the day.
