While it has been confirmed that Aaron Rodgers is joining the New York Jets for the 2023 season, a deal between the Big Apple franchise and the Green Bay Packers has yet to be finalized. Apparently, though, Rodgers may be part of the reason for the dealy.

The Jets and Packers are still discussing compensation for the Rodgers trade. Before, it was rumored that New York wants some sort of protection in the deal in case the veteran quarterback ends up retiring at the end of the 2023 season. Recently, however, the issue has been Green Bay's demand of getting a first-round pick in return for Rodgers.

Jets-Packers Aaron Rodgers Trade Update

New York has the 13th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but it's not surprising they don't want to give it up since it can be used to add some talent to better help Rodgers once he comes in.

Now, according to the latest reports, Rodgers has hinted to the Jets to just wait out until the Packers cave on their demands. After all, he isn't coming until May anyway so there's no reason to get something done so soon.

"I've heard that Aaron has sent signals to the Jets that there is no reason for them to rush, that he's not coming until May anyway. So, they're not missing out on anything right now. So, they should hold out as long as it takes and that ultimately, they won't wind up having to trade the 13th pick in the draft, which is what I think this ultimately comes down to," Mike Greenberg of ESPN said on the Pat McAfee Show, per YardBaker.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the Aaron Rodgers trade, but sure enough, the Jets really have leverage here. For one, Rodgers has already confirmed before that he plans to join New York, and so it's on Green Bay now to make it happen.

After that declaration, the Packers really don't have a lot of choice since they will have to pave the way for Jordan Love to take over the reigns as QB1.

For now, Jets and Packers fans can only be patient and hope that a deal is made sooner rather than later.
