Michael Chiesa Thinks Conor McGregor Took Away His UFC Title Shot

Ultimate Fighting Championship warrior Michael Chiesa is blaming fellow prize fighter Conor McGregor for his recent misfortunes in the company.

Chiesa was among the fighters who were in the middle of the bus incident initiated by McGregor last April in Brooklyn. The lightweight division star was scheduled to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 223 but their match was eventually postponed after Chiesa was not given the clearance to compete.

It can be brought to mind that McGregor shocked everyone when he made an appearance at media day in the hopes of going face-to-face with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nonetheless, the erstwhile two-division world champion went berserk, which resulted in multiple injuries to fellow fighters.

Moments after the incident, Chiesa said that McGregor went on to apologize to female fighters such as UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The Irishman is currently negotiating a plea deal in the hopes of avoiding jail time.

Huge Loss For Michael Chiesa

Chiesa was adamant about McGregor's actions, citing that The Notorious One killed his title opportunities. Chiesa is set to face Pettis in the UFC 226, which is scheduled on July 7 in Las Vegas.

However, Chiesa refused to comment on whether he would file a legal complaint against McGregor. He added that he hasn't talked to McGregor after the incident.

"I lost a title shot. I have proof. I was the highest-ranked guy on the card. I would have stepped in to fight Khabib at the drop of a dime. I've always loved to fight with Khabib," a frustrated Chiesa explained.

Interestingly, the UFC 223 card almost turned from bad to worst when Tony Ferguson decided to pull out after an injury. Luckily, the company managed to put up a match between Al Iaquinta and Nurmagomedov.

UFC 226

Nonetheless, Chiesa said that he has moved past the incident and is trying to shift his attention on putting Pettis to sleep. Pettis hasn't been that impressive in the UFC tallying only seven victories to go along with six defeats.

Regardless of his less impressive resume in UFC, Pettis is no stranger to a fight as the mixed martial art artist holds a remarkable MMA card of 20 wins and seven losses. On the other hand, Chiesa is 14-3 in the MMA and 7-3 in his storied UFC career.

UFC 226, which will be held in the T-Mobile Arena, will be highlighted by the heavyweight battle between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Meanwhile, Max Holloway will go up against Brian Ortega in the featherweight division.
