Many wrestling fans have been calling for a John Cena heel turn for several years now but the WWE has been reluctant to do it. Now that Cena is an official part-time superstar after WrestleMania 33, will the WWE finally turn him heel?

John Cena is set to take a long hiatus after WrestleMania 33 to film a couple of movies, per Nick Paglino of Wrestle Zone. He missed a big chunk of last year due to injury and the filming of the second season of his television show "American Grit" on FOX.

The 39-year-old superstar is now taking the same path Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson took to Hollywood. Cena has been cast in several big roles in movies and he has what it takes to be successful just like The Rock, who is arguable the most popular celebrity in the world today.

However, Brian Mazique of Forbes believes that WrestleMania 33 is the right time to turn John Cena heel. If it happens, it will be the biggest storyline in the past couple of decades. It has the potential to help WWE with its ratings that have been declining in the past several years.

Mazique proposed several ways to do it including helping Bray Wyatt defeat Randy Orton, helping Shane McMahon beat A.J. Styles and attacking Kurt Angle. These storylines lead to matches with Orton, Styles and Angle some time at SummerSlam.

However, John Cena has faced Orton millions of times while he recently just feuded with Styles. A match with Angle is going to be fresh but the WWE might not want Angle to wrestle again. Other possible options for Cena's heel turn include a fake proposal to Nikki Bella and attacking The Undertaker.

Although a fake proposal will work, the WWE makes too much money from the relationship of John Cena and Nikki Bella. This means the best way for Cena to turn heel is to attack The Undertaker after his match with Roman Reigns. It will set up their dream match at WrestleMania 34 in what could be The Undertaker's final match.

Nevertheless, these are just suggestions and John Cena will surely propose to Nikki Bella before taking his hiatus. Turning Cena heel is still just a dream for many wrestling fans but it almost happened, according to Stephanie McMahon.

"At one point in his career, I really wanted to see him turn heel. I wanted it as a fan and I also thought it was the right thing to do, but it turns out I was wrong," McMahon told The Cheap Heat podcast.
