The Playstation 4 has been a huge success for Sony and is now on pace to reach sales of the legendary PS2. The PS4 boasts its hardware as the most powerful in this generation of consoles. But that title won't be theirs for long once the Xbox Scorpio releases later this year. In order to be competitive, Sony has to begin development of the Playstation 5 in order to compete with the new Xbox.

As of now, the PS4 Pro is the most powerful console which consistently beats the Xbox One in most games. The console is capable of producing graphics and models that aren't too far away from the real thing. And with the huge sales driving its success, it won't be long before they announce the Playstation 5 which will surely produce better graphics.

Gaming Bolt has a report regarding the potential power of the PlayStation 5. According to Stardock CEO Brad Wardell, the Playstation 5 will be fully capable of delivering photorealistic graphics. Stardock is a technically inclined company that has produced graphically impressive games like Ashes of the Singularity so their opinion regarding the next console generation should be considered.

Moreover, the CEO adds that photorealism is, in fact, possible in today's console. The problem, however, is that the software can't catch up to the pace of the hardware. According to the CEO, current graphics engines hasn't been able to fully utilize the hardware's potential. But with time, the software may eventually catch up to the speed of the hardware. Maybe by the time the Playstation 5 releases, software developers may be able to create an engine that makes full use of a graphics card's capabilities.

Then again, Sony hasn't announced anything for the Playstation 5 yet. Sony has been busy developing games for the PS4 and has been doing a great job so far. But don't be surprised if development for the Playstation 5 has already begun. And when it does arrive, expect it to have photorealistic graphics.
