Tom Brady will turn 40 years old before the start of the 2017 NFL season and there have been talks about his retirement. However, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed that Brady wants to play for six to seven more years before hanging up his boots.

In an interview with Mike Reiss of ESPN, Kraft was asked regarding the possibility of Tom Brady playing well into his 40s. The 75-year-old billionaire noted that Brady told him personally that he is not going to retire anytime soon.

"As recently as 2-3 days ago, he assured me he'd be willing to play six to seven more years and at the level he performed. There's no one that would be happier than I, and our fan base," Kraft said.

The talk of Tom Brady retiring from football stems from all the moves the Patriots made this offseason. They are the clear favorites to win the Super Bowl and achieve the perfect season next year. If Brady accomplishes that, he might decide that it's time to retire.

Another sign that points to a possible retirement for Tom Brady is the situation of Jimmy Garoppolo. The Patriots are reluctant to trade him despite the fact that he will be a free agent in 2018. Garoppolo is seen by many as the heir to Brady and the Patriots' culture of winning.

Despite the fact that Tom Brady told his owner about his future plans, the Patriots still need to think about the future. Brett Favre was the only quarterback aged 40 years old and above who had a great season in NFL history.

According to Karen Guregian of The Boston Herald, the Patriots should still plan the post-Tom Brady era despite what Robert Kraft said. She pointed out that no matter how great Brady's training and diet is, he is going to be 40 years old soon and Father Time will catch him eventually whether the Patriots like it or not.
