"Cyberpunk 2077" is the game currently in development for CD Projekt RED. The new game was announced 4 years ago before the release of "The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt." But besides the initial reveal trailer, information regarding the game has been far and few in between.
Fans are eagerly awaiting CD Projekt RED's new game as the famed developer is known to create immersive games. And with the success of "The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt" anticipation for "Cyberpunk 2077" is running high. But with the recent changes in the developer's website, fans may now have an idea of when to expect the game's release.
According to Gaming Bolt, CD Projekt RED has applied for a government grant to secure funding for the developer's upcoming projects. Developing games as big as "The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt" will require a huge sum of money which would explain the developer's application. "Cyberpunk 2077" is expected to be bigger than the "The Witcher 3" and thus would require more money.
But more importantly, the application also mentions a timeline that the developer must meet the game's milestones. That timeframe is from January 2016 to June 2019. And since it is widely assumed that "Cyberpunk 2077" is the current project of CD Projekt RED, then the game should be launched within that period according to WCCFTech.
"The Witcher 3" had at least 3 years of development before its release in 2015. After its release, the developer was busy creating 2 expansions that were released on 2016. It was only after the releases of the last expansion that CD Projekt RED was able to focus solely on the development of "Cyberpunk 2077" around 2016.
Considering the long development period creating huge games, gamers can expect "Cyberpunk 2077" to be released sometime in Q1 2019. A 2019 release will mark around 3 years of development which would be the ideal amount of time to develop the game and would also coincide with the timeline mentioned in the grant application. A June 2019 will be the latest release date for the new game if the timeframe is followed.
3 years will be a long time for fans to wait for the release of "Cyberpunk 2077." But CD Projekt RED assures that gamers won't be disappointed. The developer promises that "Cyberpunk 2077" will be more immersive than "The Witcher 3."
