The New York Knicks are one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA this season on and off the court. The Knicks have a slim chance of making the playoffs but they need to unleash Kristaps Porzingis and make him the main man in New York moving forward.

The Knicks are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 26-38 record. They are five and a half games behind the eighth and final playoff spot. They have to battle the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets to make it into the postseason.

But whatever happens for the rest of the season, the Knicks need to make Kristaps Porzingis the focal point of the offense, per Richard Bertin of FanSided. Porzingis has played great in his second season in the NBA and he is only going to get better.

The 21-year-old Latvian is the future of the Knicks franchise but they should really make him their present. The team has to let Kristaps Porzingis assert himself on both offense and defense more often rather than let Carmelo Anthony make his usual isolation and hero ball plays.

Even Al Iannazzone of Newsday believes that the Knicks should give Kristaps Porzingis more opportunities towards the end of the season. As the next face of the franchise, the Knicks have to throw him into different scenarios and let him develop into an even better player.

Knicks president Phil Jackson knows that Kristaps Porzingis is the future and he will surely look to trade Anthony in the summer. He is also going to build around Porzingis moving forward as he tries to make the Knicks a contender for the next couple of seasons.

In an interview with the New York Post, Kristaps Porzingis revealed his goal for the Knicks. He noted that he wants to make New York championship contenders in the near future but it will only happen if they make him the man and surround him with players that compliment his skills.

"I really think in New York, we would be 10 times bigger just because of how much basketball means to this city, how hungry for success the city is. That's the goal, for us to be a championship contender," Porzingis said.
