The Washington Wizards continued to bolster their bench after signing free agent point guard Brandon Jennings for the rest of the season. But can Jennings help the Wizards solidify their spot in the Eastern Conference standings?

The New York Knicks waived Jennings on Feb. 27 to clear a roster spot for Chasson Randle. He reportedly agreed to sign a deal with the Wizards on Tuesday and it was made official the next day. The 27-year-old point guard inked a one-year, $1.2 million contract to play for the Wizards for the rest of the season, per Marc Stein of ESPN.

It was the second shrewd move by the Wizards since the trade deadline last Feb. 23. They acquired Bojan Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Thornton and a 2017 first round pick.

Now, the Wizards have signed one of the best available players on the waiver wire in Brandon Jennings. He averaged 8.6 points and 4.9 assists per game for the Knicks this season. He is an improvement compared to the Wizards' backup point guard Trey Burke.

The Wizards are currently third in the Eastern Conference standings and they are legitimate playoff contenders. The addition of Brandon Jennings solidifies their bench that is full of players like Bogdanovic, Burke, Ian Mahinmi, Kelly Oubre, Tomas Satoransky and Jason Smith.

According to CSN Mid-Atlantic, the Wizards finally have a capable sixth man who can play with both John Wall and Bradley Beal in Brandon Jennings. He can also play as the team's backup point guard since he is a capable playmaker. The Wizards waived rookie Danuel House to clear a roster spot.

The Wizards also got a statement win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night and the addition of Jennings is a big move for them. They are expected to reach at least the Eastern Conference Semifinals and if they reach the Conference Finals, they have exceeded a lot of expectations under head coach Scott Brooks.
