Another surprising NBA trade news headlines the online reports that are swirling around the league nowadays. The Los Angeles Lakers purportedly made a big step today heading to the penultimate day of the trade deadline.

After the shocking trade of DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans just recently, many believed that it is just the start of many trade transaction that will transpire as the trade deadline is rounding up tomorrow. Recent reports are now spreading that a trade deal between the Lakers and Houston Rockets allegedly took place hours after the Lakers change its front office.

According to NBA.com, hours after the Los Angeles Lakers organization announced the hiring of Magic Johnson as the new president of basketball operation and Rob Pelinka as the new general manager, the Lakers made a sudden trade deal sending Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Corey Brewer and a 2017 first-round pick.

Though there is still no confirmation with league officials as of this time, Williams already took his farewell to Los Angeles thru Twitter saying goodbye to the city. It is not surprising after all as Williams is already linked to trade deals lately but it still uncertain where the team he will be headed.

On a separate by Yahoo Sports, the trade deal is the first move that Johnson have done after assuming the position and he was reportedly directly engaged with Rocket officials as the trade is ongoing as per league sources say.

The arrival of Brewer, who is only averaging 4.2 points, 1.1 assists and 2.0 rebounds this season, will give the Lakers additional defensive player which he is known for. The pick will also give the Lakers an opportunity to have two picks in the first round but might eventually lose their own first pick to the Philadelphia 76ers if it falls outside the top three in the incoming draft lottery.

On the other hand, the Rockets will have another offensive-minded player with the acquisition of Williams. Williams, who is averaging 18.6 points, 3.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game this season, will further boost the already potent offense of the Rockets. He will join James Harden, Eric Gordon, and Ryan Anderson as an additional scoring threat that will put big numbers on the board for the team.
