Holly Holm, the woman who conquered Ronda Rousey Saturday night in Australia, is drawing high praise from Jon “Bones” Jones, the former pound-for-pound king of mixed martial arts following her UFC-shattering win.
“In my opinion Holly Holm is already the G.O.A.T. of women’s combat sports,” Jones said on Facebook. “She was considered the greatest female boxer to ever compete in the sport and now she has defeated the greatest female mixed martial arts fighter to date. Her accolades are absolutely unheard of.”

Holly Holm's Victory Was No True Upset
It should be noted that Jones helped train Holm for the Rousey fight, and the two train out of the same gym, but he makes a strong point. Boxing is an underrated aspect of mixed martial arts, since many of the top fighters thrive on the mat with wrestling and/or jiu-jitsu. Holm’s elite striking befuddled Rousey though, and mitigated any game plan she had entered the octagon with.
Jones went on to imply that Holm is a better ambassador for women’s MMA than Rousey because of her character. Nicknamed “The Preacher’s Daughter,” Jones said Holm is the “pride” of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“I know the MMA community doesn’t really know Holly yet, so let me be the first to tell you: She is the most classy and down to earth athlete I’ve ever had the pleasure to be around. She is the long time pride of Albuquerque, New Mexico not only because the way she competes, but the way she treats each and every individual that has the opportunity of meeting her.”
Rousey wasn’t buying that perception ahead of their fight, based on a scuffle at the weigh-in.
Rousey failed to shake hands with Holm before the fight as well, providing a sharp contrast Holm’s humble comments post-match.
